 My Love Affair with Gerhard Richter

" I only discovered Gerhard Richter in 2011 when I went to see Corinna Belz's documentary film about the artist. I had been floundering about with acrylic, a new medium for me, for about 2 years and had produced some truly epic crap. When I saw his work, I was immediately and completely smitten. There is something so beautifully mysterious, an almost graspable truth which lies just beyond the threshold of his canvases, that I began to mentor myself to him without his knowledge -  not to copy him, but to dissect him. I wanted to unravel the secret. I have never been able to do so, because the truth is that that "secret" remains forever just beyond the artist's reach; it is the driving force. But its pursuit wakes me up eager every day, and has led me to some discoveries of my own. These canvases are the record of this ongoing journey".
